When It Rains…

Well, our Summer fun with Lil’ SS has come to an end. Her mom was in town this past weekend to pick her up, and while it was a little sad to see her go, we know she’d rather be with her friends, than hanging out with me. Let’s be honest.

(This photo was from our trip to the beach last week.)

Her and the three other people she came out with, wanted to spend Saturday at the beach. But when we woke up Saturday morning and realized it was going to be raining for the majority of the day, we decided our previous plans for Santa Monica beach were probably not a great idea. SS checked the weather at one of our favorite beaches more north, and when we saw clear skies until 4pm, we hopped in the car and headed that way.

A short hour and a half later, we were all playing out in the surf. All eight of us. And it was amazing. There were rainclouds all around us, in every direction. But directly above us, was clear blue skies.

For almost four hours, we splashed, rode waves, ate snacks, dug in the sand, and climbed rocks.

Just before 4pm, the clouds covered the sun and down came the rain. That was our cue. Enough time in the sun.

[Top photo-all four kids. Bottom right photo-my 15-year-old.]

Let’s be honest, it always makes me a little nervous to spend time with Lil’ SS’s mom. I think it’s just a territory thing. Lil’ SS is hers, not mine, so my motherly feelings tend to hide away when she’s around. However, we had a wonderful visit with them and I would invite them back any time. [I can’t go into my feelings and emotions on the whole situation right now, because that’s not what this post is about, but I assure you, there will be a time for that at a later date.]

Hope everyone enjoyed their weekend just as much as we did. I’m headed to go play with my now 15-year-old.

Where does the time go?

From Sick to Fun.

Hi Readers. Long time no talk. I hope you're still out there.

Last Thursday was a rough day. I woke up with a very sore throat and a cough I couldn't seem to shake. Meds, meds, and more meds. Nothing seemed to be helping except the soothingness of a few Honey Cough Drops. I sucked on them all day, and vowed I was going to stay home on Friday and get better.

Unfortunately, my desire to keep things running smoothly in my office outweighed my need to get better. I went into the office against my better judgement. I struggled through the day with a pounding headache that got worse with every coughing fit. :-(

All I wanted to do was go to sleep. I wanted to lay down and not have to stand up. Jeffy told me to come stay the weekend with him and he would take care of me. Aww.

I got to his house after work and collapsed on the bed. We went and had a fabulous dinner, I came back and took some NyQuil, and was knocked out by 11:30p. Best part? I slept until 2:00p Saturday afternoon. I woke up feeling MUCH better. My cough lingered a little, but with the aid of the Honey drops, I had no sore throat. Score!!

We ran a few errands, I watched Jeffy and his friends shoot at clay pigeons, and called it a day. My plan to feel better over the weekend was working. Yay!

Bad day to be a pigeon.

Around 9:00pm, I started to get hungry. We decided I was feeling good enough to go out to dinner, so we hopped into the car and drove straight towards one of my favorite places. We didn't make it there.

Mid drive, Jeffy's phone rang. "Want to go see the Space Shuttle??" said a voice real loud.

Without a second of hesitation, Jeffy knew this would be something I'd love. So we drove, towards downtown LA.

:-)
With a father that worked in the space industry for 30+ years, I can't help but feel a little bit connected. I remember my dad spending weeks at a time in Florida helping to build the Space Shuttle Discovery. This one wasn't Discovery, but it brought back some emotions I didn't expect to have.

The crowds were amazing. Who would have thought, that in the middle of one of the worst spots in LA (at 3:00am), there would be people of all ages, races, and religions, joined together to smile. As I stood up on a tall wall to get a better view, I looked around at all the happy people taking pictures and chatting. I stared with tears in my eyes.

She's one of the most beautiful pieces of machinery.

Space Shuttle Endeavour's final resting place will be the California Science Center, where it will be displayed in FULL LAUNCH POSITION in a few years. I'm grateful I was able to see this amazing piece of history. Up close and personal.

A little thing called The Weekend

There was no screaming. There was no yelling. There was no arguing. There was no name calling. There was no fighting. There was love. All weekend long. I wish I had actually counted the number of times RJ told me he loved me. In less than 48 hours, I heard it more than I’ve heard it my ENTIRE life. It was fantastically amazing, and makes me tear up thinking about it. There IS someone out there that loves me unconditionally. And I’m so happy it’s my son. :-)

Coming into a strange house with SEVEN dogs was a bit overwhelming at first. RM#1 made his adjustment fun, and put the dogs away only letting one out at a time until he became comfortable around them. One of the dogs (Kasey) is known to be kid aggressive, so we introduced him last. He ended up being his favorite dog. Strange.

Saturday morning, I heard a loud creek in my room (only heard by the opening of my bedroom door). Then I hear “Mom? Are you awake?” Before I could turn around and open my eyes, he had climbed into bed with me. BIG GRIN!

I was a little shocked when I stumbled into the bathroom, eyes half open, and saw this…

11 years ago, deodorant was NOT on my mind when I thought about the future of my son. They actually do grow up into adults, don’t they?

We had breakfast and went grocery shopping. I loathe grocery shopping. I very much dislike walking down every isle. I want to go in, get what I need, and leave. I like to spend less than five minutes (ten max). Grocery shopping for the appetite of an eleven year old? We were there AN HOUR AND A HALF.

We spent several hours on Saturday playing at the arcade. We played games I hadn’t played in forever, and games that I never want to admit that I played. He beat me TWICE at air hockey, but I beat him at hoops.

He rode the bumper boats. He sprayed other people and other people sprayed him. Yay for getting in the car wet!!Winking smile

Before I took him back last night, we stopped for one of his favorite things. In-N-Out.

I don’t know when the next time he’ll be allowed to spend the weekend with me will be, so I’ve taken my memories and locked them away in my little mind.

Weekend wrap-up

What an uneventful weekend. Really. It was.

Thursday saw this at work…

Stepped outside the training house door and saw this little guy just laying in the shade. He was taken away.

Friday I was sent home from work early.

Silly me, even knowing better, hadn’t eaten much all day. Well, sure enough, 2:00pm comes around and on the floor I lay. Apparently, during conversation with a few trainers, I fainted. I had a slight bump on my forehead from where my head hit the floor. I’ve had a constant headache in the bruised area ever since, but I’m okay.

Saturday I was treated to a beach side lunch in Malibu. Call it a date. Call it two friends hungry for a change a scenery. Call it whatever you want. I call it, good food and good company mixed in with some beautiful scenery.

Oh, and of course I made sure I had this…

Sunday LZ, Squid and I went to hang out with some of our bff’s to watch the Dodgers vs. Braves game. Unfortunately, the Dodgers lost, but we had good snacks.

Monday I watched a Mustang be towed as my friend looked on puzzled.

That is what’s been going on. Having three days off work in a row is awesome. I’m loving that I didn’t have to do anything today.

The trainer I’m housesitting for comes home tomorrow, however, she leaves again on Wednesday so I’ll be back here in a few days.

My laptop has been fixed, temporarily. While she no longer is coughing up blood, her hard drive seems to be failing. Fear not. I have one on order. In a few short days, she’ll be back to full working capacity. Until then, I’ll deal with the stupid error message popup. :-)

Talk soon.

Weekend Wrap-up

Friday night, I received a surprise visit from an old flame. My feelings on this were mixed, and unfortunately, still are. We sat around on our laptops where he made me fall in love with Dropbox, chatted about cars and racing, watched mindless television, and drove to Denny’s at 1:30am to have bacon and eggs. Finally falling asleep at 5:00am, made it very difficult to get up Saturday morning. After a quick breakfast at a local greasy spoon, we finally parted ways and off I went to see my RJ.

Ice cold drinks were just what RJ wanted. That, and 20 chicken nuggets! Visit was great. Boring, but at least we got to spend a few hours together. I can’t wait until these expensive paid visitations are over. Oh, the sacrifices we make for our children.

Came home Saturday afternoon to find this…

Thank goodness this dirty poodle gets groomed tomorrow. He’s filthy! He’s much prettier when he looks like this…

It’s Sunday, and all I want to do is stay out of the heat. I drove down to Jack in the Box and got some lunch, but it’s so darn hot out, I wish I had stayed inside. Thermometer read 103* today. In the shade. Where are you Fall? Where are you Winter? My car is having a real hard time keeping up in this heat.

I hope ya’ll are staying cool in this heat. I hope people on the east coast are safe from the hurricane. I hope everyone has a fabulous week!

Weekend Recap

On Friday, I wrote about how relaxing and wonderful I had hoped this weekend would be. Although it was far from wonderful, it wasn’t in the last bit uneventful.

I was so rudely awaken at 6am on Saturday morning by an urge I couldn’t control. Hmm. Where did that come from? Back to bed for a few more hours of sleep. Whoa! Less than an hour later, I’m awaken for the same reason. Yikes! Do I see a trend? Back to bed. Like clockwork, one hour later, it hits me again. Sitting in front of the toilet, with four confused dog eyes staring at me, I sniffle back the tears enough to mumble, “What has caused me to be so sick? Come here. Can I have a hug?” Both dogs looked at me like I was from another planet, and at that very moment, I probably looked like I was. For the next 11 hours, I spent every hour running back and forth, trying to convince myself it wasn’t something I had done, it was just something that happened to be going around. None of my friends were sick, but perhaps I stood too close to someone at the pharmacy the other day. Ugh. I should know better. I did the very few things I needed to do, took something to help me sleep, and went back to bed. I got some well wishes from JK, and promptly fell asleep.

Sunday morning I wake up from a dream about NASCAR. Go figure. I jump out of bed, confuse the heck out of the dogs, turn on the TV, and settled in to watch my guys go around, and around, and around the track. A 21st place finish was NOT what I was hoping for with Kyle, but if anyone can make up those lost points, It’ll be him. Since I was so sick yesterday, I’m having to do all the things today that I had planned to relaxingly do.

My relaxing weekend has now turned into a sick busy weekend. But, I’m all better. Not sure what it was, but glad it’s gone. Time to catch up on some FarmVille and FrontierVille. :-)

I hope your weekend was MUCH better than mine.
