Super Bowl Sunday

I dislike professional football. Growing up, my parents watched it on Sundays. And Monday nights. And Thursday nights (if there was a game on). And Saturdays (again, if there was a game on). I hated it. On the weekends I was with my dad, I’d come home Sunday night and go straight to my room because I didn’t want to sit in the living room with my parents and watch football. Despite my many attempts to get them to believe me, they still thought I was being antisocial. Sigh.

I went to a Chiefs vs. Broncos game with my parents and uncle when I was fourteen. I enjoyed the energy I felt from the people around me, the excitement of the crowd when the home team scored and the typical ballpark food, but the slow play of the game was boring. Painfully boring.

The X loves football (Cowboys fan), so for the 10 years we were together, football would be on the living room TV on Sundays. And Monday nights. And Thursday nights (if there was a game on). And Saturday (again, if there was a game on). I still hated it.

Today, I still dislike professional football. I do not watch any of the games during the season, so I don’t watch the final game of the season.

So, here’s to funny Super Bowl commercials. *Cheers*

The Ducks are on fire

I honestly don’t know what to say. With a shutout of 69-0 over Portland State, I think it’s safe to just let Andy Hutchins tell it like it is.

Oregon-Ducks-Football

It's hard to pick just one statistic from Oregon's insane evisceration of Portland State. Do I choose the 528 rushing yards on 63 carries? The goose egg Oregon's defense handed the Vikings, who went 0-for-18 on third down? The alacrity of the Ducks' attack, which scored on 11 drives, none longer than 2:07?

It's just as hard to pick just one stat from Oregon's incredible year. Do I cite the point differential, which stands at 189-13? The fact that Oregon's yet to concede a point to a non-BCS conference school? The three running backs (LaMichael James, Remene Alston, and Kenjon Barner) with over 200 yards on the season? The idea that Oregon scores more than three times the number of points per quarter (15.75) than its defense allows per game (4.33)? I can look at this from any of many angles and still come up with a mind-blowing stat. I can only hope that continues at Arizona State next week.

The Ducks Do It Again

It wasn’t as easy as last weeks game, but they pulled through. A game that started out with the Tennessee Volunteers looking like they had their stuff together, ended up in disaster when the Ducks scored 45 unanswered points through wind, rain, thunder, and lightning to bring them to another victory.

Final Score: Oregon 48, Tennessee 13

Next up: Oregon vs. Portland State  -  Good luck Vikings!

College football is back…And so are the Ducks

On my personal blog back in January, I wrote a post about the Oregon Ducks college football team being in the Rose Bowl (see below).

“While visiting my parents over the Christmas holiday, I found myself overly excited about the Rose Bowl party they were having. Oregon vs. Ohio State. With all but one person cheering for the Ducks, I found it hard not to join in the cheers. The Ducks didn’t end up winning, but we had a great time. (And my Oregon Ducks cupcakes were a huge hit!! (That’s not mustard, I promise.)”

Yesterday, my favorite college football team beat the New Mexico Lobos 72-0 in the first game of the season. Did you get that? ZERO!

Five touchdowns by Kenjon Barner. Two touchdowns by Cliff Harris. Two touchdowns by Darron Thomas. 506 total push ups by the Ducks mascot.

GO DUCKS!!

But, New Mexico is a team that was 1-11 last year and had the 113th ranked defense.Tennessee next week, might not be so easy.

Ice Skating

I think it’s time for another trip to the ice rink. I’m needing a little ice exercise.
