70 floors and 1,000ft above Los Angeles

Every time 'Lil SS or RJ come to visit, we try to find fun, different things to do, because bored teenagers can be irritating and annoying. And get into trouble.
A few weeks ago, when ‘Lil SS was here for Spring Break, we took a drive to Downtown LA. We had been told about this slide on the side of a building, so naturally, we had to check it out.

From atop the US Bank building in Downtown LA.

You had to buy the tickets downstairs before you even went up into the elevator, so you didn’t get to see the actual slide ahead of time. Because I’m the scared, reluctant one in the family when it comes to heights, I opted to not ride the slide. However, once we were up there, I think it might have been cool to experience it. Just to say I’ve done it. Oh well. Here's a video of SS and 'Lil SS riding it.

I have to be honest, the view is really why you go up there. It was 70 floors up (1,000 feet). I haven't had the opportunity to go up that high into a building, so this was awesome. The Empire State building's observation deck is on the 86th floor! Can you imagine??

Until next time....

Scratch & Sniff

Do you remember scratch & sniff stickers? They were some of my favorite stickers. My awesome sticker book was FULL of an assortment of stickers. I used to take my awesome sticker book to school and share it with my two bff’s. I was so proud of it. My awesome sticker book might be packed away in a box. Perhaps one of these days I’ll go through a box or two and see if I can find it. Until then, I’ll just continue to post some awesome photos of what made me smile as a child.

Moving forward

A few nights ago, I met with someone I'd been casually chatting with for a few months. I had the typical first meeting jitters. I confided in a friend I knew could keep a secret what my direct fears were, and promised to send a photo of his license plate in case I ended up missing. I always thought being cautious was overrated, but after finding myself in one or two positions I'm sad about having been in, I had to cover my bases. Caution is now my friend. (In THIS instance, at least.)

The nervousness began to wear off after a few minutes, and when we were head deep in NASCAR talk, I knew I didn't have anything to worry about. It was an awesome feeling to be able to have a conversation with someone on the SAME LEVEL OF NASCAR EXPERTISE. It's not often I run across people like that. :-)

It was a short visit, weeknight and all, so I'm hoping it's not a long time before he comes back. It's a solid two hour drive (no traffic, an hour and thirty), so we'll see.

*fingers crossed*

Today, the part of Val will be played by Paul Bunyan.

While taking care of a person recovering from heart surgery, cooking, cleaning, lifting heavy things, vacuuming, driving, and grocery shopping isn’t where my duties stop.

A few weeks ago, a strong wind blew down one of the trees in the backyard. Cracked the thing right in half. Unfortunately, it landed on the house. No damage was done, other than a few broken roof tiles and a missing gutter elbow, so I consider it a good day.

Since StepDad can’t obviously go out and cut/move the tree himself, I enlisted the help of a alternate personality close personal friend.

Me.

Here’s the proof…

Here’s the missing gutter elbow. I never did find it among the branches. Weird. Could it have blown away? Are those things that light?

Fun Friday

Hi readers! I hope your Friday evening was awesome, and I hope the rest of your weekend is ever more awesome!

I managed to get through an entire week without my bosses being there. Okay, Boss#1 was available, but only from his cell phone on the 7th hole.

Friday proved to be the most challenging day, but I struggled through it with every ounce of self control I could gather. I kept my cool, even though all I wanted to do was point out how much of an idiot this person was. All worked out in the end, and I’m pretty positive it wouldn’t have if I hadn’t stayed so focused. What a nightmare, and a HUGE pat on the back to me for staying nice. I’ve done my bosses proud!   :-)

By 8:30p, I had a beer in hand. On our way home from the restaurant, we stopped at my favorite local bar. Another beer. Karaoke night! Another beer. LZ got up and sang Love Shack by The B-52’s while a friendly guy at the bar chatted me up. Another beer. Spent the next 40 minutes trying to help LZ pick another song to sing. Finally decided on Goodbye Earl by The Dixie Chicks. I sang with her on this one, and we rocked it! Other people were singing along and having a good time.

Stay tuned… there could possibly be more to this guy that chatted me up at the bar. LZ seemed to like him. I suppose I’ll always have a soft spot for someone with a southern accent. Tennessee…you might be my new favorite state.

Fun stuff

Cute little wall mirror, housed in a decorative frame.

Scrolled photo frame. Has removable frames.

An adorable lighted shelf to show off your cute decorations.

Oversized vintage wall clock - just the thing for me. Adorable.

Cute redesign of a veggie tray.

My favorite M&M is yellow, so this adorable yellow pillow is perfect for my couch (or bed).  :-)

Again, my favorite yellow guy helping me out by adding additional USB ports. Awesome!

A weekday trip long overdue

I’m thinking a weekday trip to Magic Mountain is long overdue. I haven’t been in almost four years. I drive past it a few times during the day (if I leave the office), and every time I drive past, I say to myself, I will come visit you soon. I promise. I miss you too.

Growing up, I would often frequent the park during the summer. I have many fond memories of those hot days, and often think back to how simple life was. Where are those days now? Why can’t I just go and enjoy a hot summer day at The Mountain?

I think perhaps it’s time. Yes, it seems it is. Anyone care to join me?
