This week in NASCAR…

Camping World Truck Series: Matt Crafton, driver of the No. 88 Thorsport Chevrolet, won his first pole of the 2010 season Thursday night at Texas Motor Speedway as the. Kyle Busch blew past points leader Todd Bodine on a restart on Lap 127 and held off Johnny Sauter over the final 20 laps to win Friday night's WinStar World Casino 350K.

Nationwide Series: James Buescher takes the pole. Carl Edwards scores the victory, his third of the season. Brad Keselowski's third-place showing is good enough to clinch this season's Nationwide Series championship. It's the first NASCAR title for Roger Penske, Keselowski's car owner.

On another note, Kyle Busch stormed out of the media center after claiming Carl Edwards illegally jumped the final restart and gotten away with it. He used swear words both during the brief media center interview and also in an earlier post-race radio interview.

Sprint Cup Series: Approximately one hour after announcing a full-time multi-year Nationwide Series deal with Kevin Harvick Inc., Sadler put the Sprint Cup Series car he will leave at the end of the season on the pole for Sunday's AAA Texas 500 at Texas Motor Speedway. Kyle Busch gets spun around, then is immediately caught speeding while exiting pit road. He exploded on the team radio with a string of expletives and then compounded his misery by flashing an obscene gesture to a NASCAR official. A two lap penalty put Kyle finishing in the 32nd spot. Jeff Gordon had a few choice words (and a few fist punches) for Jeff Burton. 1/1,000 of an inch, is just sometimes too close. Denny Hamlin takes the checkered flag AND the points lead. Finally, someone other than Jimmie Johnson.

Next week: Phoenix     Winner prediction: Jeff Gordon

A Trip Down A Bumpy Lane

drive thru wildlife ranch

A little over 10 years ago, while living in what some might call the great state of Texas, The X and I decided we would take the kids to a drive thru wildlife ranch. It was a spur of the moment decision as we were drive south from Austin, and a great decision.

It was not like anything I’d ever seen. We were able to drive through 400 acres of open land that had buffalo, giraffe, rhinos, ostrich, antelope, elk, zebra, llama and more.

As we were driving, a zebra stuck his head inside the drivers window and took the feed bag right out of The X’s lap. It was soooooo funny. We were all laughing so much, that this zebra had the audacity to stick his head inside a car.

(not the actual photo, but similar.)

Towards the end of the drive, an ostrich, came up and stuck it’s head right up to the passenger window and started pecking at it. Hil-ari-ous! We couldn’t stop laughing. He was pecking so hard, I thought the window was going to break. The X assured me it wouldn’t, and we drove on, laughing. As we drove on, he started to chase after us. I felt like I was in the middle of a Hollywood movie.

It was a good time, and I can’t wait to do something similar again. It was definitely worth the scare of the ostrich, and obviously left me with some great memories if I’m telling the story over 10 years later.
