Country Music vs. Alternative Rock

Remember the Alternative Rock band Staind? Yeah, me neither. According to Wikipedia, they were compared to groups like KoRn, Tool, Alice In Chains, or even Pearl Jam. They started their career back in the mid ‘90’s, and have only put out six albums. Popular group? Not so much it sounds like.

Anyway, one of the country channels on XM has been playing this song Country Boy, by Aaron Lewis recently, and I loved the sound of his voice. I told JK about it so he promptly downloaded the album for me. He turned the song on for me to listen to, and said that sounds like Staind.

What? What the f**k is Staind? He went to YouTube and told me to turn my head away from the screen. He played one of their most popular songs and screamed THAT’S THE SAME GUY!

There was no way in hell I was going to give credit to JK for figuring out these two voices were the same, and he was determined to make me give him credit. Google images forced me to give credit where credit was due.

OHMYGOD, PEOPLE! The lead singer of Staind has recorded a country album and I, without knowing, approved of the first song from the album. Ugh! I’m so disappointed in myself.

What is he thinking? I can’t seem to go anywhere in the Alternative Rock genre, so I’ll try Country Radio like Darius Rucker. Is that what goes through people’s minds now-a-days? If I start hearing Mariah Carey or Britney Spears on the country channels, I’m going to change to an Oldies station.

Dearest Aaron: I enjoy listening to your newest single. I shamefully have admitted it to the world, and I beg that you stick with the likes of the seventh Staind album you’re putting out. I will respect you more for sticking with what you love. Sincerely, A Confused Fan.

Here’s the song. What is your opinion?

  1. Ya know, Lady Gaga released a country song too! They played it and asked for thumbs up or down. It got shot down on this coast.

  2. WHAT???? I have to confess that I've never actually heard her sing. But...first impressions are EVERYTHING and she hasn't done anything but disappoint me from the beginning. I'm all for expressing yourself as you want, but she's straaaaaange.

Jewel has done country music too. I never was a Jewel fan in previous years, so when she came to country, I was not positively receptive.

  3. I seldom comment, but after looking at through a great deal
of remarks here "Country Music vs. Alternative Rock". I do have 2 questions for
you if it's allright. Is it simply me or does it give the impression like a few of the comments look as if they are coming from brain dead people? :-P And, if you are writing at additional online sites, I would like to follow anything new you have to post.
