I’ve started this post so many times that I’ve lost count, and ultimately decided to delete every word because, really, who reads this? Then I remembered that I started blogging so that I could get my feelings out, and that was it, not because I needed to keep a certain number of followers, or impress a certain group of people.
Writing in a notebook would frustrate me because I’d start to doodle and then forget what I was trying to say. And by the end of the entry, my writing was so bad, it was difficult to read. Now, those notebooks sit in my closet packed away in a box. I’ve looked at them one or two times over the last 10 years, but haven’t sat down to actually read them in much longer.

There’s so much I want to write about, but just can’t seem to get my fingers to do it. From changing jobs, to my kid moving out of state, to the NASCAR Championship, to another year of Thanksgiving/Christmas wishes. I just don’t know where to start.

Stick around. I guess we’ll both be shocked about what I write next.

Rain, Rain, Go Away

Ok, it’s not raining, but I felt this title was the most appropriate.

This is a post I never thought I would need to write, or even thought was important enough to write, but since I’ve had soooooo many people from The Ranch continually looking at this website hoping to cause problems, I felt I better say something.

A few weeks ago, I made some comments about how I was asked to come back to The Ranch to help the person that took over for me, because, well, she needed it, let’s be honest. However, it seems she, along with several others from The Ranch, can’t handle the fact that I spoke the truth. Perhaps they would have rather me have said a lie, or congratulated her? Unfortunately, I don’t sugarcoat bullshit, and they all know it.

This is MY website. MY little piece of the internet, and I speak the truth whether someone wants to hear it or not. If you don’t want to hear or see what I have to say, STOP LOOKING AT THIS WEBSITE. It’s honestly that simple.

This is where I write my feelings. My emotions. The thoughts that run around in my head. None of them are wrong. However, a certain few people seem to think I’m not allowed to voice my opinion, and state facts. I laugh at those people and think to myself, “Just go on with your life. I don’t bother you, so don’t bother me.”

So in closing, if you’re going to continue to watch this site waiting to see what I say next, great. I encourage it. If my thoughts, emotions, and feelings are that important to you, fantastic. I’m glad you’re finding entertainment in my ramblings. But if you can’t handle the words that flow from my fingertips, or you find them to be too much to handle because you can’t deal with someone telling the truth, then go away. You won’t hurt my feelings. Trust me.

Blah, blah, blah

Just a hodgepodge of things…

  • We have trainers prepping at a pool with a few dogs for EIGHT days, and I wish I was swimming with them. With this 95*+ heat, I’m looking for a pool to jump into. Running through my sprinklers proves to be more of a muddy thing.
  • The Rowdy 251 Super Late Model race in Michigan yesterday, was won by Kyle Busch, for the second year in a row. Yay!! So proud of him.
  • Got a call from T yesterday saying, “Hey! Did you just win tickets on the radio?” Apparently, someone named Valerie from CC (<—my town) won tickets to GoFest. It wasn’t me to my knowledge, however, if I receive tickets in the mail, I’ll make sure to make a big deal about it.  :-)
  • I am 32 years old, and I ran my first red light the other day. In my defense, there was another car beside me that did also, however, it was VERY red and oh so deserving of a ticket. Thank goodness big brother wasn’t watching.
  • Taking pictures isn’t near as fun with my phone. It doesn’t take great pictures, as with as much as I apparently shake, the pictures are always blurry. I miss real cameras.  :-(
  • I have a 10-day out of state vacation coming up. I’m beyond thrilled. Can’t wait. Best part? I didn’t have to pay for the flight.
  • RM#1 comes back on Saturday. Being home alone this whole week has been wonderful. So peaceful. Being able to do things on my time instead of someone else’s has been great, but I am looking forward to having her back.
  • Tomorrow is Friday, and that means it’s Karaoke night at the local bar. This time I’ll try not to leave without paying my tab. Good thing they like me. That could have been a disaster. :-)

A new toy to play with

It’s almost the weekend. Yay! Anyone else as excited as I?

I’m going to be hanging out at Boss#1’s house for the next few days. He’s out of town at his granddaughters high school graduation, so I’m taking care of the dogs at his house. Yay for me. And five dogs.  :-/

Boss#2 bought a new MacBook for the office. Guess who got to take it home on the first night? Yep, me. I’m not a Mac person. Don’t like ‘em. Never have, probably never will. That was confirmed when I turned it on and didn’t even know where to start. I felt like there was a lot of clutter. Boss#2 is taking it with her on vacation, so I need to make sure it does certain things for her while she’s gone.

I’m not an idiot. The X taught me how to build computers years ago. PC is what I know. I have several friends who use Mac’s, and have been trying to get me to switch for years.

After sitting here playing with the MacBook, I can honestly say I do not like it. It has a couple features I like, but honestly, I can get those programs for my PC and be just as happy.

I’ll continue to play around with it throughout the evening, but I do not anticipate any excitement coming out of it.

Saw this quote on Twitter today.

Ask yourself, "why are you so unhappy?". Instead of taking it out on someone else, do something for you. May just find a diamond in the rough.

And right before that, he said this…

It's easy to criticize, all of us do it. A lot harder to just BE.

It’s like he was talking directly to me. Obviously he wasn’t, but it sure seemed like it. It forced me to put thoughts and emotions into words, and when I did that, I felt a little better. I cried a lot while doing it, but I think it helped. Maybe one day he’ll stumble upon those words.

I’m headed out of town, where I’ll have no internet. Have a great weekend, readers! Stay safe.

Ramblings

I didn’t get to see RJ last Saturday. I was annoyed at the entire situation, but I’m over it and looking forward to seeing him tomorrow. He will get his Easter basket a week late. Bummer.

I ended up buying a new mouse. Not because the other one finally stopped working, but I feared I’d break it more at some point and just figured getting rid of that unnecessary stress was worth the price of the replacement. I couldn’t find the same mouse at the store I was at, so I opted to get a Microsoft mouse instead. Who knows. Maybe one day there’ll be a post about this one. :-)

The pig. He’s fine. He runs around the backyard eating grass. He thinks he’s one of the dogs. And surprisingly, the 5-8 dogs we have here at any time, leave him alone.

The landlords had to come and replace our hot water heater this week. They were not happy. In fact, they were a little annoyed. It had been leaking for what appears to be a year, although I’m not certain that is the correct amount of time. The whole bottom was rusted and coming apart. We now have a new one. :-)

The landlords came and painted part of our house. They said they’ll be back in two weeks to finish it. :-/    We have red brick along part of the front. It makes the entire front of our house look like it’s Christmas ALL.YEAR. now because they painted it GREEN. Yep. You heard me. It’s green. Just need to put up white Christmas lights and we’re set. What happened to good old fashioned beige or grey?

I’m gonna be the 264,758,263,849th person to mention the Royal Wedding. Deal with it. For the months, weeks, days, and hours leading up to the wedding, I continued to say who gives a s**t? I had a discussion with JK last night about it, and guess what? Today while I was watching it, I was BAWLING! There are so many reasons why, none of which I will go into here. And yes, every girl wishes for a fairy tale wedding.

Tonight I chose to watch King of the Hill over Bones. What is wrong with me?

Random Ramblings

One week ago, I was two days in to one of the most relaxing weekends ever! Today, an entire seven days later, I feel like I haven’t taken a deep breath in longer than that. Whew! What a busy week. It seems like this week was a few days longer than just five. And I’m glad it’s over.

Tonight is the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Awards Ceremony.

Tomorrow is the Civil War game between Oregon and Oregon State.

Sunday is nothing. Absolutely nothing.  :-)

So, on that note, I’ll wish everyone a safe and fun weekend. Oh, and relax, too.

Anonymity

Something has been puzzling me lately, and I’m not sure if talking about it on here is the right thing or not, but I’m going to anyway.

With all the technology there is out there, why does one still think they are invisible? I know when you visit my blog. I know how many times a day, from what location, at what time, what operating system you use, and even your screen resolution among several other things. This isn’t front page news, as lots of bloggers use this way of tracking their visitors. So why do people still think they are “anonymous”, when they clearly aren’t? It’s like those people that have their eyes blocked out, but you can see the rest of their face. You still know who they are by all the rest of their features.

And so I sit here, puzzled even more, about people that “lurk” as well.

Ramblings

It’s Fall already? Wow. Where does the time go? This is not my favorite time of year. I used to enjoy it, but family troubles over the last few years have led me to honestly despise the end of the year. After my mom and stepdad retired, they moved out of state. (Oh how I long for the day I can move out of California.) Holidays like Easter, Thanksgiving, and Christmas, just aren’t the same. I have no relationship with my father (and you read the reason why in #5 here), and LZ typically spends her holidays with Squid’s family.

Halloween: Probably the stupidest day of the year. I hated it as a kid, I hated it when RJ was real little, and I hate it today. There’s nothing exciting (to me), about my doorbell ringing over and over and over, listening to the dogs bark, and giving out handfuls of candy to kids who will inhale it before the end of the week. I’ve never liked carving pumpkins, because frankly, I’m just not an artist. My lines are always crooked, and it just never looks right. Although I do have to admit, candy corn is one of the few candies I eat.

Thanksgiving: This happens to also be the day before my birthday. Last year I spent Thanksgiving with some old family friends. I will probably end up going there again, and I’m grateful I have that opportunity. I love pigging out on turkey, mashed potatoes, and cranberry sauce. I do not like stuffing, so please don’t bring the leftovers to my house the next day. I will throw it out. However, if you bring me a pumpkin pie, I’ll be your friend forever!!

Christmas: Last year my bosses paid for me to go see my mom and stepdad for two weeks. Thank you PC and KM. This year that won’t happen, but I am hoping to at least be able to see RJ. *fingers crossed*  I haven’t been able to spend a Christmas with him in five years, and as a mother, that’s one of the worst feelings. I miss him terribly. I get so sad when I think about the years I’ve missed watching him open presents on Christmas morning, or on helping to pick out a tree. But I’m learning to let all that go and live in the present. What happened is in the past, and all I can do from here on out is make things right.

I tried to create a “blog button”, but let me tell you, that’s just something I can’t seem to figure out. I’ve come to the conclusion that I just don’t need one. I’ll leave the cool buttons to the people that actually need them. :-)

I knew this post would be just a bunch of rambling, and I was right. It was. Nothing of importance, just a bunch of stuff I guess I needed to blurt out. That happens every once in a while.

Until next time…

Just do it!

I’ve been trying for a week. I sit down, write the salutation, jot down a few words to start the email, and then delete it. Grr. The words just aren’t flowing. Am I unsure of what to say? Am I searching for words that have long passed and just aren’t good enough anymore? Am I afraid I’ll get a reaction I’m not prepared for? Am I afraid I’ll get no reaction at all? I’m lost for words, but need to find them quickly. I don’t have a lot to say, I just want to make it short and simple. I don’t want to fight, or accuse, or bring up the dreaded past, or even make a joke. I just want to say what I have to say, and be done with it. Something simple, cause after all, I’m simple.

I got news for you…

Do you want me to tell you something really subversive? Love is everything it’s cracked up to be. That’s why people are so cynical about it. It really is worth fighting for, being brave for, risking everything for. And the trouble is, if you don’t risk anything, you risk even more.

Blah, blah, blah…

A few days ago, I accidentally deleted ALL the previously recorded stuff on the DVR of a friend. For this, I will forever be sorry. If I had not been so irritated about something else, I wouldn’t have been huffing and puffing and blowing houses down and flipping ever so carelessly through the DVR menu. I apologize again. :-(

(this is not the actual DVR menu)

Today, I called a friend and thanked her for always being my friend. Through the good times, the bad times, and the hundreds of miles that kept us apart, she never judged. She loved. I aspire to be like her one day.

Tonight, I cooked dinner for the neighborhood girl across the street. She sat in the kitchen, playing an old Dixie Chicks song from RM#1’s laptop, while watching and talking to me as I cooked. We laughed. A lot. We sat together, ate, and told stories. It was fun. She’s five.

The day was successful, even if I woke up with a completely different outlook. A crappy day was avoided with the help of a few unsuspecting WE’s.

Rambling Recap

Let’s see what we got…

  1. Two days off work this week, sick. Although I feel better, I will feel real icky come payday. :-(
  2. Today I took my aloe plant and replanted it into the ground. Now it will grow bigger.
  3. There are few things more annoying to me than packing up my laptop, only to find out I didn’t need to and now have to unpack it.
  4. Realizes that after FOUR traumatic events where the police couldn’t help, I have little faith in those sworn to protect us.
  5. Did not attend my cousin’s wedding today, but wish him the happiest life ever. I ♥ you, John.
  6. Shared some family stories with another family member. Unfinished chapters can finally be finished, yet I’m uneasy about how I handled it.
  7. I really dislike the Geico commercial with the guy who yells “Goooooooooooooooal” during the chess game. It’s obnoxious.
  8. Does not like eating soup for dinner, but tonight, seems to be a soup night. I’m tired of cereal.

I was fine. I was just fine. Until…

…the phone rang. Five minutes later, I shed tears I hadn’t shed in almost a year. They just kept falling. I couldn’t stop them no matter what I did. I tried. I really tried. I tried to think of horrible things, but none were coming to mind.

I had been doing so well. I had been strong until now. How do I go back to the person who was just fine?

Ramblings of some sort

I made mistakes this year, all of which felt gargantuan at the time—all of which seem relatively trivial now, but are still important, because, most of all, I learned from them. And so the embarrassment of these mistakes is masked by acknowledgment, embracement, and recovery through understanding. Though most of my lessons this year were taught in the form of feeling and fearing and losing and destroying love, I really think that love is one of the most important emotions to know completely, even though that is often so hard to admit.

I think that sometimes the most difficult person to understand is yourself. As you get older you quickly become more and more aware of all the layers. There are too many layers. There are layers to yourself that feel so normal at one moment and so horrid the next. And that is, in my experience, the most frightening feeling of all: when you wake up in the morning and you can’t remember the person you were last night. You look in the mirror and you can’t recognize the person you’ve seen each time you’ve looked in the mirror over the past thirty-one years. Your actions are read back to you and you can’t recall yourself. You are ashamed of yourself.

-LeLove

I began this year at my parents house in Oregon. At midnight, I was preoccupied elsewhere, so was yelled at by JK for not being on the webcam. I had a feeling, even then, that the year 2010 would consist of many pitfalls and reckless nerves.

In front of a house on the outskirts of Austin, I learned my first lesson about real love—it persists even after the parties involved have torn each other down. Real love builds us back up.

In a crowded restaurant, sitting across from him in a comfy booth, at the end of the coldest months of the year, I learned that real love, however misguided, is forgiving. But also that misguided love is hopelessly flawed and, regrettably, temporary.

At the beginning of June, I learned I was not a vegan.

Underneath a streetlamp in the suburbs, I learned that no matter how kind and giving and honest you are, you cannot make someone love you. I learned my own strength, and my ability to recognize an unhealthy presence in my life, and be rid of it.

At the end of the spring, I learned that real love truly loves you unconditionally, even without reciprocation. But this love, I also learned, can quickly become greedy, and will selfishly turn you against all the exits in order to keep you under its wing, even at the expense of your own well being.

As the first signs of summer began to spring, I longed to understand the most unforgivable of actions in the most horrible way.

In a small bedroom lacking air-conditioning, I was brutally, gut-wrenchingly, and boldly honest. And in that honesty, I finally recognized to myself the real weight of my actions. I learned that some things are simply unforgivable, no matter how badly you want to cling to the notion that forgiveness is possible.

The final shred of evidence of my once respectable self was ripped away with the departure of my source of life support. I learned that dishonorable actions do not, eventually, go unpunished.

On the cold tile floor of an empty house, I learned to accept my mistakes as my own. Most importantly, I learned to accept the blame for my own misfortunes, and my abandonment.

On the third dark evening of the year, I said goodbye to my parents, and I learned how much I could truly love and miss someone. And in the missing of them, I learned how much I truly appreciated them. I learned that real love persists, despite thirty-one years of conflict and resolution.

Amidst a fever and the first signs of fall, I learned that it is not so much about understanding the difference of opinion, but the indifference of it. I learned that despite how much hurt is inflicted, or how much time has passed, or how much love is shared and lost and shredded, there is room for forgiveness.

And finally, through the peep-hole of my house, I spotted a missing link, and I remembered everything I had learned at once. I remembered so much undeserved love, the bitterness of its departure, the sheer pain of the emptiness it left behind, accepting all of the blame so silently, and finally feeling peaceful. And I learned another lesson in the art of starting over, however slowly or reservedly. I learned that the things you are most patient in waiting for are really the only things worth waiting for.

This year I learned to accept the fact that layers change, so people change, so relationships change, so love inevitably changes. Sometimes love changed is love lost, but lessons lie amongst the residue that are painful to face, and the most important to know completely, I think.

This year I have loved, ohh I have loved, and I do not regret.
