Growing a garden

I am a HUGE tomato lover. HUGE! I can eat more tomatoes at one time than anyone else I know. I pour on a bit of salt, and bite right in.

Growing up, I can remember my stepdad planting tomatoes a few times a year, just so I had a bunch to eat. There was always something better about home grown tomatoes than store bought. He’d keep them on the kitchen counter so any time I walked into the kitchen, I’d see them and grab one. You’re not supposed to keep tomatoes in the refrigerator. Fresh tomatoes start to fall off the flavor wagon as soon as they go below 55°. We’d always have tomato slices with dinner, and I was often caught with my hand in the cookie jar tomato plate. I’d usually eat most of them.

Mmm, tomatoes.

Artichokes are another favorite of mine. I could eat them four days a week with no problem. Some dip the leaves in butter (like my stepdad), but I prefer dipping mine in mayonnaise. Here’s the kicker, most people eat artichokes for the heart. I, do not. I want no part of it and will gladly leave it for anyone else so inclined to eat it.

I can’t wait to have my own yard again, so I can grow the things I love. Tomatoes and artichokes, just to name a few.
