Back at it

A few months ago, I received a phone call from an owner of another animal company in the business. He expressed interest in hiring me to run his office, but at the time, I was very content with just going to school. My days were filled with studying and trashy daytime television. It was the best mix of chaos and relaxation that could have ever falling into my hands. And although SS was extremely jealous that I was doing that, he tolerated it.

As much as I enjoyed my time off work, I couldn’t realistically continue to do that. Since the fear of starting a new job was more overwhelming than I wanted to handle, I decided it best to at least stick with the field in which I was familiar. Animals in the entertainment business. That was my whole life for more than eight years, so I decided to call him back.

I just finished my first month.

The new place is different than my last ranch. Different in so many ways. So. Many.
First of all, they are mostly known for exotics. Yes, exotics. I now currently work at a ranch that houses lions, tigers, and bears (Oh My!). When I get to work every morning, I can hear the lion grunting – perhaps trying to remind the trainers it’s breakfast time?

It’s been a really tough month. A huge eye opener. I’ve learned that I’m tougher than I thought I was. Work from 8a-5p and classes from 6p-11p. Some nights I just want to pass out dead tired after class, and some nights I just want to keep going. But then at 6:30a the next morning, I want to pull my eyeballs out because the sun is just too bright.

Here’s to another job. And to another quarter of school.

15 Days of Happiness–Day Eleven

Day Eleven.

I got my toolbox! The time has officially come, and I’m beyond excited. This toolbox contains all the electronic components and such, that I’ll need throughout the rest of my program. Bring. It. On.

SS’s daughter stopped at the playground on our way out to run errands. I guess I just can’t stop the little monkey in her.

This is what made us smile today. What made YOU smile?

15 Days of Happiness–Day Three

Day Three.

Day three brought on my first day of AC/DC Electronics. And guess who is taking the class with me? Squid!!

While I was out having fun learning about electronics, SS’s daughter was playing in the pool at her grandparents house. :)

15 Days of Happiness–Day Two

Day Two.

Classes started back this week, and mine started tonight! So, today, the thing that made me happy, was being back at school. Even though tonight’s class is math, I’m determined to make the best of it. And who knows, I think the chance is pretty high that I’ll meet some new people. Fingers crossed.

The thing that made SS’s daughter happy today, was having dinner with her dad and grandpa.

One down.

Operation Back to School is in full force. It’s been two weeks since classes ended, and I’m ready to get back to it.

First quarter done - ü
First set of classes completed –
ü
4.0GPA - ü

Each quarter is a new set of classes. Three classes at a time, and before you know it, you’re done with your program. Or so that’s what I hear. My first quarter flew by. I had a lot of support, and I dove in very excited to take on a new career study.

I opted to taking only two classes my first quarter back, since it had been 15+ years since I took my last college class. I was unsure about my abilities while working full time, so allowed myself the flexibility of only two classes. Now that I’m not working, it’s easier for me to focus on my classes and a fairly routine studying rhythm. Hence the two A’s in the first quarter.

My next goal is to get three A’s this second quarter. With the help of other classmates, and my awesome boyfriend being so fantastic at math, I feel this quarter could be a huge stepping stone towards my future.

I still believe… I. Can. Do. This.

So, it turns out, you’re never too old to go back to school.

Finally took the plunge and dove head first into the pool they call college.

Electrical Engineering – Wikipedia’s definition is a field of engineering that generally deals with the study and application of electricity, electronics, and electromagnetism.
However, it has now subdivided into a wide range of subfields including electronics, digital computers, power engineering, telecommunications, control systems, radio-frequency engineering, signal processing, instrumentation, and microelectronics.

In normal people talk, I’m going to learn to play with some pretty cool equipment.

When I was a kid, I would spend hours taking things apart and putting them back together. StepDad used to get so irritated with me, until he started to realize that time after time, I was able to put things back together without extra parts. He encouraged me to continue to take things apart and learn the inner workings of things, and so that’s just what I did. I learned to take computer towers apart and rebuild them into better and faster computers. {Thank you to The X for helping me learn that.}

It’s a little tough to get into a different routine. There definitely wasn’t extra time in my previous schedule for four hour long classes and study time and homework and drive time to/from class. But I’m determined to  ensure that the outcome will far outweigh the inconvenience it currently causes.

Decimal, Hexadecimal, Octal, Binary – not my favorite things to learn, but it’s definitely interesting.
