Pineapple Cactus?

How strange looking is this plant…

As soon as I saw this plant, I said, “That looks like a pineapple cactus.” Guess what? It is.

Just a few minutes ago, I typed pineapple cactus into Google, and several photos of this plant popped up. I guessed pretty good.

The Pima Pineapple Cactus is a round plant, growing up to eighteen inches tall and seven inches wide. It is green and has yellow flowers, with pale tan spines. The fruit is oval, green and sweet. The cactus grows in semi-desert grassland and in Sonoran desert scrub. The cactus may be found singly or in clusters.

And that, is what I learned today.
