A Scare

When my car is parked at the ranch during the week, my windows are usually left open. There is an air freshener in my car that is a bit overpowering, so I leave the windows open in hopes that it will diminish the strong smell of this particular scent. I’ve been doing this since I started working there, four years ago. After this story, however, I just might start leaving them closed.

On any given day, it’s normal to drive away from there with a fly or bee stuck in your car. I always wonder what other drivers think when they see me swatting away a fly or frantically trying to roll the window down before getting stung by that bee. They are laughing, no doubt.

Yesterday while I was on my way home, something caught my eye in my rearview mirror. I couldn’t tell what it was, but the sight of something flying around in my back seat caught my attention and knew that it MUST be this…

Yes folks, I screamed as if a bat was flying around my car.

It’s a 30 minute drive from the ranch to my house, and this happened about 10 minutes in. After about 15 more minutes, I had forgotten about this bat because I hadn’t seen anything moving around. I had actually convinced myself that there was nothing in my car and it was just something outside that maybe flew past my back window.

Just about the time I’m getting to my neighborhood, I see it again!!! OMG. There is something flying around and it’s going to eat me! Oh.Em.Geeeeeeeeeee.

I looked over at the passenger back window and see this…

ybutterfly

A small yellow & black butterfly, trying to escape. He was flapping his wings so hard against the glass, it was making a loud thumping sound. I opened up the window, but never actually saw it fly out. Today while looking in my car, I did not see it. I hope he got out because next time I’m scared like that while driving, I might cause an accident.
